Experience Studying at Home During Covid-19
On
March 2, 2020, the government announced the first case of Covid-19 in
Indonesia. After that, sometime later the government restricted activities
outside the home by imposing Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). For this
reason, most activities are limited and must be done from home, one of which is
face-to-face learning activities at school. During this Large-Scale Social
Restrictions (PSBB) period, learning activities were carried out online. This
activity applies to all levels of students from kindergarten to college level.
At the beginning of the implementation of online learning, I felt a little
difficult to adapt to this online learning activities. I think offline learning
is easier to understand than online learning. Many problems occurred during
this online learning period. These problems are such as an unstable signal,
especially if it is raining and blackouts and laptops that often stop suddenly.
This problem becomes one of the obstacles in the process of teaching and
learning activities online. For me, it is more difficult to understand the
material presented by lecturers online than the material presented by lecturers
offline.
However,
I learned little by little to be able to adapt to this online learning. I have
several methods that I use to overcome my difficulties in this online learning
activity. The method I use to better understand the material provided by the
lecturer in online teaching and learning is by looking for other, deeper
explanations through searching on Google. I did this to complete the material
so that I could better understand the material provided by the lecturer. In
addition, another way I do to overcome difficulties in online learning
activities is to diligently collect and read materials that have been given by
the lecturer. I have also made efforts to solve problems regarding the signal
and technology used in online learning, in this case, laptops. To overcome the
unstable signal, I replaced my card with a card that had a more stable signal
but sometimes the signal I got was still unstable. Then for laptop problems, I
scan for viruses more often, clean up memory space, and tidy up the files on
the laptop.
Even
though I have made efforts to overcome the difficulties in understanding the
material, in fact several times I still had difficulty understanding the
material provided. In addition, even though I have tried to fix signal and
laptop problems, in reality these signal and laptop problems still often hinder
my learning activities. However, this online learning activity also had a
positive impact on me. The positive impact was that I became more
conscientious, diligent, and punctual. Even though this online activity is
still too difficult for some people, this learning activity must be carried out
so that learning can continue even though it is far away. In my opinion, to
make learning activities fun, it can be done by listening to music before class
starts to raise the mood, prepare drinks and snacks, make notes on learning
schedules, and find a quiet and comfortable place to study.
